Livingstone - Further links

As per the homepage, there's very little about Livingstone on the Internet, so if you know of any further links then please leave a comment.

So Tough - Full video!
With massive thanks to Marcus Lavaggi-Bowen for tracking the VHS down on ebay and getting it converted (seriously, Marcus has been a star), you can now see the FULL version of the So Tough video (complete with authentic video tracking issues!) below or over on YouTube.

Livingstone had five tracks recorded for the legendary John Peel in 1995, including two unreleased songs. That programme has been pieced together and is now available on MixCloud. Sadly not all the tracks are there and the last two aren't great sound quality, but you can hear LIVE session versions of Gangsta (16mins 12s), Flirt (44mins 44s), and Call Around (46mins 40s).  Full details of the session are here and if you somehow manage to find the rest of the tracks please get in touch!

A write-up from the only other Livingstone fansite that was created back in the 90's. The site looks long-since dead but the archive still has this review of a March 1996 gig.

The only known available Livingstone video promo is via this upload from ITV's classic The Chart Show programme in March of 1997. While it's transferred from VHS and not played in full, you at least get to see the band and learn a few extra facts about them (UPDATE 2022 - the full video is now available at the top of this page!)

Glint - Gravity Hauls
Following the break-up of the band, Andy M, Morgan and John went on to form Glint - another melodic indie guitar band. You can buy a copy of their single release - Gravity Hauls - online (it's really rather splendid). An album was planned, and demos recorded, but never fully recorded.

  1. Cheers for all this. Back in 1996 everything 'indie' music-wise was still rather new to (the 12 yr old) me and each successive find a mini revelation; it marked the year I stumbled onto the 'Evening Session' on Radio 1 and the NME & music mags etc. Happy days (when I should've been doing my homework) etc.
Always remembered Livingston they made an early impression on me (amongst the plethora of my other 'Stars of C90' a la Urusei Yatsura, Silversun, Bennet, Tiger, Subcircus, No.1 Cup, Imperial Teen, Jocasta, Helen Love etc etc that I'd taped off the radio on my compilation cassettes. Their names live on. Kind of). Many thanks anyway for uploading the Livingstone singles on youtube as well. (For what it's worth) I for one salute you.
    Regards.
@Goodbye 20th Century. Let's do it all again though one day eh (or least the 90s :)

  2. I love this band. I still listen to 'Call Around' at least once a week. Oh the idea of finding the album one day.......cheers for doing this website. I had never heard John Wayne before so great to hear it. How can such an amazing band be so unheard of. I feel like I am in an exclusive club......

    1. Thanks for taking the time to comment Paul and welcome to the club! Yep, it's great when you find out that - no, it wasn't just you, other people remember how fantastic the band were too!

I finally got hold of John Wayne myself after many years, it's from the album listing but was included on the re-release.

Call Around was the first thing I ever heard - the powerboat on the cover got me interested - and I was hooked immediately. The 10 released tracks live on my mp3 player and get a regular outing at least a few times a week.

I'm hopeful, having spoken to a few people in the
know, that we will see the album in 2018 in one shape or another - so keep checking back at this site.

  3. I used to work with the singer Andy, top bloke, and I went to quite a few gigs. I do know the album was recorded for Silvertone, I even had a copy back in the day, but not sure where that went over the years. I'll have a dig, though would need to check with Andy before any sharing, if it still exists.

Andy's still at the BBC and has an apparently active Twitter account at https://twitter.com/andymeeson?lang=en - maybe worth seeing if he can link you to any goodies? Might get back in touch myself too. Been too long.

  4. Thanks Unknown - yes, Andy M is on twitter and has been lovely giving his blessing to the site and some details of Glint. The other Andy (drummer) works at radio 1 and is keeping me posted on a possible release of the album at some point. I won't post anything unreleased here unless it has their blessing and/or a link to the album when it finally comes good!
